Good news, I've been hired to do some contract work for a local company that does genetic research. The people there are very cool and I'm really excited to be there, even if it's for a short time. I'll write another update in the next few weeks.

Hello friends and family and fans of Deserted,
It's been a while since I last updated, almost two years. I never intended to have such a long absence from this site but other personal projects kept me from doing more Deserted cartoons. If you've been wondering if I'll continue with more episodes, I'm considering it. But more on that later, I have an announcement to make:
I've left the San Jose Mercury News.
Yes, it's true. After five years working there I got laid-off. I was an editorial artist there, meaning I did work for the news part of the paper. I created maps, charts, cartoons, photo illustrations and infographics.
The reason I got axed? Money. They couldn't afford to keep me. Read about it here. It's a disturbing trend that's happening all over the country, read about that here.
I've worked with many departments there and made many friends as a result. I'll miss you all. Your kind words – whether in person or through e-mails – have comforted me. I really appreciate the support.
Don't worry about me, though. You can see from this site that I put together a few years ago, that I've had other interests besides working in newsprint – this one being animation.
I'm staying positive about this new chapter in my life. One of the things I've been working on over the last decade has been a short animated film. (It's not anything like Deserted, meaning it won't be in Flash and it won't be a comedy.) Now that I have time, I can work on it and have something to show people in the entertainment industry.
Come back in a few months for an update. I've got some work to do!
