Hello there, welcome to Deserted.com. We here at Deserted.com are a dynamic, growing company with many, many employees bringing you the finest in Flash entertainment exclusively on the Interweb...
...heh.
Don't you just hate it when you come across a website with a spiel similar to the one above of someone trying to give you the impression that they're some gigantic, corporate entity when you know it's just some dude in his underwear in that one spare bedroom of his house with delusions of grandeur?
I don't want to give the impression that this site is a large, impersonal corporate entity. I'm just one guy (yep, sometimes in his underwear and yes, with delusions of grandeur) doing this little Flash cartoony thing. To those posers out there let's keep it real, playa.
I'm the creator of Deserted a Flash animated cartoon series that I had originally intended to be a comic strip. I live in Campbell California, a nice little town which is right next to San Jose. And if you don't know where San Jose is (it happens to be the tenth largest city in the US) it's about 50 miles south of San Francisco. I'm married. My lovely wife Christine helps me out by doing the voice of Sophie the Kangaroo Rat for the series. We have a dog, Logan (no Logan does not help me with voice-work, but I'm currently in negotiations with his agent). I do all the writing and animation as well as the voices of Killjoy, Armadillo Bob and Monsta G. I also get help from my family and friends; Mike, my bro-in-law does Chuck Chuckwalla; my cousin Patrick, AKA DJ Elder, does Deadwood as well as all the music for the series; and my old high school buddy, John does Jon Jon the Bluejay. And yes, that's his real voice folks.
My regular day job is graphic designer for the local newspaper here in the heart of Silicon Valley, the San Jose Mercury News. I design stuff for news sections like maps, charts, illustrations (and badly done impersonations). Over my almost twenty year career, I've also worked at the LA Times and the Fresno Bee. It's no secret that the newspaper industry isn't doing so well these days. It's true that the Internet is killing it. Well, I'll spare you the depressing details. I will say that I have a backup plan in case I ever get laid off. Two words: PORN STAR!
I usually update this little 'blog' every time I post a new episode. A new episode can take anywhere from two to four months depending on what's going on in the other areas of my life (like cleaning the pool, for instance). So please don't take the long periods in between episodes as a sign of me neglecting my animation duties. I do it when I can and I always have one in production at any given time. It's a labor of love, so I won't be stopping anytime soon.
CURRENT EPISODE: Have you heard of Shakespeare in Central Park? How about the desert? In the latest episode, Killjoy, our lovable, scorpion scumbag flexes his acting chops. Honestly, I've never really studied Shakespeare, I just know that they quote him a lot on Star Trek. So for you thespian types, I hope I didn't screw it up too much. I had fun recording the lines though. And a special thanks to Bill Shakespeare for the writing assist. You rock, Bill.
SHOUT OUTS: A big shoutout to my old college buddy Albert Yurgal. He helped me decide on the name 'Monsta G' for my new little gila monster character that appeared in the last episode, Tough Crowd. And also a tall Americano shout out to Mark Yamamoto, my afternoon Starbucks buddy. And a double shoutout to newlyweds Andrea Maschietto and Ken Brown. Congratulations and we wish you the best life has to offer!
NEXT EPISODE: Come on back in early 2007 for a fun episode where I'll have Chuck finally sing. I had the talented DJ Elder do up a special karaoke song for it. I am also planning on adding an extra scene to Naughty or Nice, last years Christmas episode. Check back around Christmas time for the special edition.
That's enough of me. Have a great holiday season.
